Our mission at Frontier College is to work with Canadians who need and want our help to improve their skills. Learners have unique goals and volunteers have unique reasons for wanting to help. You can read more in Stories and Testimonials.
We know that low literacy skills are directly linked to poverty, poor heath and high unemployment. We also know that literacy is more than just the ability to read and write. It's also about the ability to understand the printed word and to put it to use. It's about strengthening culture, achieving goals, gaining knowledge and recognizing potential. It's about succeeding in today's world.
Forty-two percent of adult Canadians have trouble with everyday tasks that involve reading. That's millions of Canadians who are not reaching their potential. Through a network of thousands of volunteers, Frontier College is helping people realize their potential and seize the opportunities that come their way.
To understand more about the literacy situation in Canada see A Frontier College Summary of the International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey.
