Position Available

Title of Position: Community Coordinator
Term: January to June 2010, 20 hours per week
Location: Cold Lake, Alberta and Area
Start date: As soon as possible

Frontier College is a national, non-profit literacy organization which was founded in 1899. We work with children, teens, adults and families who need help to improve their literacy skills. We work with a variety of community-based organizations to deliver volunteer-run, community-based programs across Canada. Many of our programs are delivered through a national network of university campus-based initiatives.

We are seeking a mature and creative candidate looking for a unique and challenging job opportunity to fill the position of Community Coordinator for a series of literacy initiatives in the Cold Lake, Alberta area. 

The Community Coordinator will be expected to work with our established community partners in Elizabeth Métis Settlement and Cold Lake First Nations to provide literacy programs for children, parents, and families. The programs will include tutoring, family literacy workshops, and literacy-based day camps to take place throughout the 2009/2010 school year.

The Community Coordinator will have experience in working in Aboriginal communities and in a collaborative, community driven environment. The successful candidate will also have experience in program coordination, facilitation, and/or development. As the position will require travel, access to reliable transportation is required.

  • Enthusiasm, creativity and strong communication, organizational and planning skills;
  • Ability to function independently, and cohesively as a team member;
  • Flexibility, strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and families;
  • Standard First Aid is a necessity;
  • Prior program development experience an asset
