Tutors meet with learners twice a week through downtown secondary school for an hour and a half from October to April (excluding exam periods and holidays). Tutors focus on helping learners improve literacy-related skills and make reading and writing understandable and enjoyable. From January until April, the work is specific to passing the required grade 10 literacy exam.
Tutors meet with learners once a week at the Peterborough Public Library for an hour. Tutors conduct an initial assessment in the first meeting to enable them to deliver an individualised learner centered approach to accessing English skills. The focus of sessions could range from: writing, reading or conversation. Specific modules could be job interview skills, resume writing or simply reading the bus map.
Learners meet once a week for two hours at the Peterborough Public Library. In partnership with the Education Department of Trent University, Frontier College is delivering an arts based approach to teaching children (ages 9-13) literacy skills. The foundation of the work is grounded in basic literacy skills. Handwriting clarity, spelling, grammar and sentence structure are all delivered in this 15 week programme.
