Frontier College is Canada's original literacy organization. In Saskatoon, we recruit volunteers to work with learners in the following literacy programs. We screen and train all of our volunteers before they go into the community.

Volunteers are placed in local elementary schools and work one-to-one with children who need extra support in school.
Volunteers work in small groups to conduct a drop-in homework help session for children struggling to keep up with their homework in a Saskatoon elementary school.
Volunteers are placed with children (one-to-one, kitchen ratio) and meet weekly for two hours. They read recipes, prepare meals and share stories and activities and enjoy their meal together. Literacy through health and nutrition are stressed and the core competencies are taught through food preparation and reflecting on the experience.
Activity 4 Life focuses on literacy through the fundamentals of literacy and play. Here, the children meet once a week in the school gym and are organized onto teams to play various literacy games which incorporate the core subjects and offer physical exercise at the same time.
We help recruit volunteers for one of our partners The Open Door Society in order to help immigrant and refugee adults and adolescents with ESL, Conversation Circles, and Homework Help. For more information on these programs please visit www.sods.sk.ca.
