Frontier College is Canada's original literacy organization. In Thunder Bay, we recruit volunteers to work with learners in the following literacy programs. We screen and train all of our volunteers before they go into the community. Volunteer tutors go into three branches of the Thunder Bay Public Library to help children in the areas of literacy and numeracy.
Volunteers work with children on their homework or any other difficulties they are having in school. Some programs are run in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club and the Thunder Bay Urban Aboriginal Strategy at Sherbrooke and McKellar Park Elementary schools. Other Frontier College Homework Club programs are taking place in the following schools: Woodcrest Elementary, Pope John Paul II Sr. Elementary, CD Howe Elementary and Sir Winston Churchill CV&I High School.
CHAPTERS bookstore has been a partner with Frontier College in promoting literacy in the Thunder Bay community for several years. The program consists of a Reading Circle and craft program in the local store. We also assist with special events.
