Literacy and Numeracy After School Program for students in grade 3 to 6
Through LNS support, Curriculum & Accountability offers literacy and numeracy tutoring programs in an after school setting for fall and spring sessions. This program provides students in grades 3 to 6, who are not meeting the provincial standard, with explicit instruction in a small group setting, for three hours a week. The focus of the program is on developing skills and concepts to help students at risk succeed in the regular school day classroom. Please contact your child’s school for more information.

Literacy and Numeracy After School and Summer Programs for students in grades 7 and 8
Continuing Education offers literacy and numeracy after school and summer school programs to students in grades 7 and 8. These classes are designed for students who are achieving at Level 2 or below. Classes run during the school year and summer during the month of July 2009. Summer class time is from 8:25 a.m. to 11:40 p.m. or 12:20 p.m. to 3:30. Classes focus on skills and concepts in literacy and/or numeracy that will be beneficial to students at the next grade level. Check the Student Success website in late spring for details or contact your local school.

Other TCDSB Homework Club and Tutoring Programs:
The Filipino Center Toronto and the Filipino Student Association at the University of Toronto, in collaboration with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, offers a Homework Club and tutoring program every Saturday during the regular school year. This program provides students in grades 1-12 with additional support to succeed in subject areas like Math, Science and English. The program is open to all students, but priority is given to at risk students. TCDSB provides resource materials and literacy instruction to tutors, as well as, students, teachers and school liaison officers.

Portuguese and Spanish Speaking Communities
The 2008/2009 school year marks the On Your Mark Tutoring Program’s 8th year of service to the Portuguese and Spanish speaking communities. The program operates with over 150 volunteer tutors in 9 school locations, which draws students from 35 schools within TCDSB and TDSB.

TCDSB has also partnered with the Working Women Community Centre and the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples to offer tutoring programs facilitated by volunteer teachers and youth workers.

These After School and Saturday morning tutoring programs are committed to supporting and improving student academic performance and reversing the cycle of disadvantage in both the Portuguese and Spanish-speaking communities.
