Thanks to Our Volunteers

April 24, 2017
Dear Frontier College Volunteer:
In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 23-29), I would like to thank you for your remarkable
support of Frontier College. Your decision to take action is making a positive impact in communities across
Canada. You are at the heart of the vital work we do to help thousands of Canadians improve their reading
and writing skills each year.

In 2016, our volunteers donated more than 60,000 hours to tutoring, reading stories, and working in our
book room. Often with full-course loads as well as part-time and full-time jobs, you still manage to volunteer
your time to teach your fellow Canadians. The energy, enthusiasm, and effort you bring to Frontier College
programs is exceptional. You are giving many vulnerable people the best opportunity to improve their
literacy skills and prepare for a brighter future.

With over a century of informal education behind us, we know that addressing the serious literacy issue in
this country takes a community, and I strongly value the important role you play in helping our learners gain
the literacy skills and the confidence needed to begin making changes in their lives. Our volunteers act as
mentors, bolstering self-confidence and helping to realize personal goals. Whether it’s in a small group
environment or a one-to-one session, you show how learning can extend beyond the classroom. You inspire
our learners and staff to be better, to innovate, and to do more; we greatly appreciate your decision to
volunteer with us.

You are making a difference. Thank you for helping transform lives through literacy.
