Kativik Ilisarniliriniq receives Fitzpatrick Award

In 2014, Kativik Ilisarniliriniq and Frontier College formed a partnership to bring the College’s Summer Literacy Camp programs to children in Nunavik. This strong collaboration has led to improving the literacy skills of over 2300 children in 12 of the 14 communities in its territory. The summer camps are offered at no cost to parents. Through storytelling, arts and crafts, science experiments, and writing, campers increase their reading and math skills and expand their vocabularies. This past summer, campers spent an average of 60 minutes reading each day. In addition to the academic benefits they experience, parents and educators agree that campers return to school with more confidence and enthusiasm because of their personal achievements at camp. Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is the primary funder of the camps, while providing housing and camp space free of charge.
