On Tuesday, July 24th, Beat the Street’s Literacy and Basic Skills Program played with paint and colour while learning about art and Canadian art history. The event was a fun, experimental process delivered by Aisling McKeown. The class began with an introduction into art fundamentals, followed by a brief introduction to The Group of Seven, who were famous for their Canadian landscapes, and the feature painting: "Mirror Lake", by Franklin Carmichael.
The class was about two hours long, and the pace was easy going, guided by step-by-step instructions suitable to all skill levels. At the end of the class, the participants took home their very own version of Mirror Lake!
Aisling is a painter and teacher formally trained at OCAD University for painting and drawing. Her classes, however, are far from formal! Her focus is always about creating a fun, creative atmosphere.
Thank you, Aisling for providing this workshop and everyone who participated in it!
